First of all, in my experience, many users don't read descriptions beyond the first line (and I'm not even sure about that).
Secondly, ads in the notification bar are nasty and I can imagine that many users don't realize *how* nasty until they're confronted with it on their phones. Then they start complaining about it by giving your 1star reviews.
