acal is open source, so you don't really have to worry about it going away. Loosing support maybe, which is probably what you are getting at.
Not much activity on this list (if any) from Google representatives, so probably not the best place to be discussing aosp-level integration. The android-developers -list used to get regular help from Google employees, but I stopped following that more than a year ago because it was just too busy with help me code this-and-that requests. In any case, I'm extra small potatoes in the android dev community, so there are likely to be some better informed opinions on this than mine that can weigh in. I do recall seeing a "how can I contribute " as a FAQ for android developers somewhere on a Google page once.
