This is something that they overthought, and that in the end was a
terrible idea (specifically the name -- it's fine that they put all the
media in the same place). I predict it won't even take two years before
they rename the app to something that doesn't require instructions. On my
phone anyway it shows as "Google Play", so if I hadn't seen the
announcement I don't even know that I would have known what it was for.

Another thing - I realized that I use "Android Market" in my app in several
places, like when suggesting the user rate the app. I'm sure there are a
lot of devs also referencing "Android Market". Which will now open an app
called "Google Play".

I was fairly impressed by how Google managed to replace "Android Market"
with "Google Play" all over the damn place literally over night. But they
can't change all of the references that exist in hundreds if not thousands
of apps. And they can't change the fact that most people that were using it
before this re-brand will continue to call it "Android Market" since
"Google Play" is a nonsensical, dumb-ass name.

Which means that the "Android Market" brand will never die and just
continue to add to confusion. This is awesome.

It would also be nice if they would get their new screen qualifiers to working. Maybe even the old ones that are broken because I have two APKs for an: one for devices with 10" and up screen sizes and Honeycomb and up and one for those with smaller screens and resolution. Since they switched to play I've gotten reports from users that they are getting the 10" version when they shouldn't be which gets cropped on a smaller screen.

I have also requested a tool so we can test before posting on the "Play" what how your qualifiers will sort out devices rather than trial and error. The 10" and up version has both x-large screen and 720p for minimum resolution. People with 7" 1024x600 screens are getting the one for the 10" screen. IOW, the 720p qualifier isn't working (the older one that should work not the newer set). It also looks like I need to update the manifest the other version so it can run on ICS but I'm not sure how well "Play" will handle the overlapping SDK APKs.
