Hi everyone.

I recently got a Galaxy Nexus from Verizon.

Not because I really need a new smartphone, or that I even really need
mobile data. I don't even use my Nexus One now that I have a tablet. I
never really have used cell phones for voice all that much, and never
had a mobile data plan before, as I have wifi at my house, and rarely
need internet anywhere else.

But if past trends, are any indication, I don't really understand or
embrace a technology until I have it. I didn't make my app really
perform on Honeycomb till I had one. Compared to me, I believe that
most of my customers have a data plan, a bigger screen phone, and
within a year from now will have ICS on at least half of their phones.
And I expect to find more interesting bugs or invent new things as an
early adopter.

I found that my app did not perform well on ICS over mobile data. But
then I discovered nothing else did either, including the browser,
Google Play. I discovered that mobile data wasn't working hardly at
all. When wifi was off, the internet didn't work.

After a discussion with the support people, I became keenly aware of
this little indicator on the upper right. Most of the time, it says
nothing. Sometimes it says 1X. Sometimes it says 3G, though not for
very long, and even then it is lying.

So instead of finding bugs, er, i mean improvement opportunities in my
app(s), I am debugging Verizon's network or the device.

How does this compare to your experiences? Do you vote for the device
or the network being defective?

I'm inclined to blame the device because I did have the jetpack
(wireless hot spot) with a mobile plan for a while, and my tablet had
internet access just fine in the same places. I really didn't pay
attention to the 4G and 3G lights on it if the internet was working.
