Took me awhile to get accepted into this group, but I'm adding my
affirmative to the discussion. This needs to happen.

I just switched over to Verizon from Sprint, and Verizon does have a
messaging app that handles the group texting thing correctly. It's nice to
finally be a part of the fun.

That having been said, I would not blame anyone who moved to
iphone/blackberry/what have you if they couldn't get this working. It
needs to be native and that's a fact. I hated being a part of group
messages when I was on my Evo 4G for two main reasons:

   1. You would get every response individually as a thread between you and
the sender. In other words, if there are 30 people in the group, and each
replies, you have 30 different threads with those people that only include
the messages from that person. There is no way to keep up with what is
being said or two whom it is being said.
   2. You cannot respond to the entire group easily. You'd have to
manually go find their numbers, then start a group message to all of them.
Which brings me to point #3...
   3. When you do send a message, whether it's to a group you started or in
reply to another group, the receivers only get it as an individual message
to them. That is to say, your message does not show up in their thread
because it doesn't have whatever tag is necessary to include it.

when the messages get to flying, it's a real pain.
