After much trial and error, i found the G2 needs a FAT32 filesystem on the SD card, that works. Kinda lame, but not that big of a deal. In the process, I called HTC tech support and they said the unit *only* supports class 2, and the problem was me using a class 10 card. Not so. Calls like that and issues like this are probably reasons their new phones don't have a removable SD card.
