This being the discussion list, you'll probably not get the best answer here. The development list is the place to answer questions like this, because real Android project developers monitor that list.

My guess though would be that, since a View is bound to a Context, there's a nontrivial chance that it can't be used by a different Context (i.e., a different Activity).
