Determines systems specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Specifies, coordinates, and resolves interface issues between various modules and subsystems. This engineering position leads and/or develops and executes system engineering projects, and/or initiates innovative system engineering projects for a range of product issues and engineering solutions, which are leading edge of system functionality or technology. The primary focus of the position is to utilize system engineering expertise to lead and/or develop and execute system engineering projects while ensuring the MRS is valid and attainable, work with vendors to develop new products, and review specifications and influence product engineering to utilize system engineering concepts. The key qualification for this position is vacuum process equipment design and development experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Lead and/or develop and execute extremely complex projects having a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, and software design, which are leading edge of system functionality or technology; spearhead research and development of new technologies as appropriate; and work with Marketing to insure the MRS is valid and attainable. Develops and implements concepts for range of exceptionally complex product issues and engineering solutions. Problem identification and troubleshooting a wide range of exceptionally complex engineering problems. Specify, supervise, or perform engineering analysis. Interface with internal and external customers regarding engineering issues for product line. Generate product specifications. Specify, supervise the development, design, or modify engineering layouts/schematics and/or detailed drawings/specifications of complex scope. Define, coordinate, perform, and document engineering tests. Specify and review engineering documentation and engineering processes. Travel to field to install new systems (initial installation of newly developed products) and field upgrades or to support field service on difficult technical issues QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Skills and abilities to perform job include: strong analytical skills; strong oral and written communication skills including specification development; strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; strong computer literacy skills; detail oriented; exercises mature judgment; ability to work in a team; ability to work independently; ability to influence other people; ability to act as mentor, lead and/or supervise projects; ability to design for serviceability and manufacturability; and ability to determine production worthiness for division product line. Knowledge necessary to perform job include: extensive knowledge of electrical engineering design, troubleshooting to component level. System engineering including expert knowledge in solving engineering problems using analytical techniques and engineering knowledge such as analog and digital circuitry, power controls, and robotics. Safety code proficiency. General knowledge of mechanical and software engineering disciplines; extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering design, mechanics, and material science concepts and techniques, including expert knowledge in solving engineering problems using analytical techniques and engineering knowledge such as thermodynamics, measurement control, heat transfer, stress analysis , Finite Element Analysis, or system integration. Thorough knowledge of software engineering concepts and techniques; working knowledge of CAD tools; extensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical and software engineering technology trends; and general knowledge of appropriate materials, components and technologies used in the semiconductor equipment or hard disk drive industries.
