Hey Michael,
The only thing I didn't do was "sync." After doing so, it still doesn't seem to have helped. Actually, I'm not getting any sound at all, but I've only reset the phone 3 times so far. alsa.conf references asound.conf, so I assumed it was the correct file to edit. Does freerunner android not use alsa at all? Does anyone know of another way to turn the call volume up? Is there a workaround for the no sound at all problem?

Just copy over it.

ADBHOST=192.168.0.8 ./adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/root /
ADBHOST=192.168.0.8 ./adb push asound.conf /etc/system/asound.conf
ADBHOST=192.168.0.8 ./adb shell sync
ADBHOST=192.168.0.8 ./adb shell reboot

I don't know if the /etc/asound.conf is used...
