Hello other Android on Freerunner people. I have started using Android
Freerunner as my daily use phone which has been a frustrating and exciting
experience.

With the various panicking kernels being separate from the Koolu trac and
not seeing too much activity on Koolu I was just curious if there was a
central place to share bugs and address them. I'm guessing getting the
development side and repositories and code sharing figured out is probably
a higher priority but I want to see if there is a centralized place to
share bug reports and the like so that we can turn this into a stable
hardware platform to run Android on.

Since I don't know where else to post this I thought I'd briefly share my
experience with Android on Freerunner.
I tested the Koolu Beta 4 image and the installation worked like a charm
from the SD card and I was even able to boot my freerunner up with no SD
card and get into the GUI for Android. Unfortunately I was getting a
settings.com crash upon start-up and it was unable to register with my GSM
provider (in this case AT&T). Scanning it provided no help and so I decided
to try the cupcake branch. The cupcake branch also didn't register with my
GSM provider and also seemed to have a resolution problem in that the icons
were much larger than they were with the beta 4.

I then decided to follow the instructions from the openmoko wiki and go
with the panicking Android 14.6 and the uImage13.bin.
This has provided me with a usable but very unstable phone. I reboot a lot,
sometimes after each call. So I would like to start providing some kind of
bug reporting if that would be helpful for us because I see a lot of
potential in this phone and operating system. Just the interface alone is a
lot slicker than what I experienced with the other distributions that can
run on my freerunner, and with the sad announcement that most of the
development staff was going to be unpaid as of last weekend I decided that
Android probably has the most potential for a usable phone, but there are a
lot of quirks I'm noticing and since I'm not really a developer but more of
a bug reporter in the hiearchy of open-source projects I thought I would
query the rest of you to see if it makes sense for me to start dumping my
crash reports somewhere and if there is a place where we can explain to
others how to do this as more people get their freerunners running Android.

I applaud all of the work that everyone has been doing in the last couple
of months and I want to do what I can get to help the Freerunner become a
successful implementation of the Android software stack, but I doubt I'll
be contributing much code due to not having a lot of time to learn how to
program with my various responsibilities.

Also let me know if this e-mail list is supposed to be only dev talk and if
this is somehow better suited for a forum post and thus should be taken
off-line, I'm just excited to see active development taking place.

Robbt
