In general consider the G1 to be the minimum spec at this point. That is ~90MB of RAM available to the kernel, and 256MB of flash. And you should seriously consider bumping the flash up to at least 512MB; if nothing else, if you are going to ship in multiple locales, 256MB just won't be enough for multiple language dictionaries and stuff.
