Supporting other pixel counts in the same screen size (i.e. about 120
to 240dpi on a 3" to 3.5" screen) is on the roadmap.

The current restrictions (screen size and pixel count) come
respectively from the fact that the Android UI was designed for that
screen size (as well as all existing applications), and that the
implementation of the density-independence code isn't fully functional
yet.

The emulator can already show different pixel counts - support to
emulate screen densities might not be fully working yet (I'm not
sure).
