It depends on your screen.  If it is a higher-density screen (which you have
specified by setting hte density higher), then you can finer detail on the
screen with the same space.  If it is the same density, then you do get more
space, but as Jeff says the current launcher is not designed to deal with
this.  In fact you will find little work has been done on any of the
built-in apps to take advantage of a significantly larger screen.
