Uhh... I think thats kind of the point of dmesg heh... its supposed to contain information about the boot, and additional kernel output since the boot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmesg
there are logs that may contain similar information in /var/log, as well as being able to wrap services in LogWrapper to get them to fire up and route logging information to a log.
