I think the article shows pretty well that betting on SIM-cards for general purpose authentication (which certainly isn't a reality today), is not going to get us very far. Introducing "remedies" such as TMS, is likely to go even worse because then we enter the mine-field known as "business models scavenging on inferior technology" in contrast to business models building on persistent value propositions. The fact is rather that SIMs represents "endangered species" because with trusted HW + working provisioning, you can get your subscription up and running in minutes, and directly from the web. You may even [securely] "clone" you subscription which is practical if you have multiple mobile devices.
