Configuration.contents shoudl auto-synchronize with configuration elements

In order to write back the user-edited configuration, I need to get access to a
string representation of the configuration. All changes the user makes are
written back to the configuration instance loaded in my editor directly, but
the field "contents" does not reflect those changes but rather returns the
original contents of the file before the user began modfying it. I'd love to
see that all changes to the configuration and it's child elements get reflected
in the "contents" field immediately. This way, I could add a "Source" page to
the editor quite easily.
