Hello Matthias, Yeah, Chad and I talked about this feature the other day, but nothing concretely has been implemented at this time because we're so busy.
I agree with you that we really would need this feature, I have experienced the same issue. By overriding the templates it would be possible to keep updating the cartridge binary without you custom templates getting lost. Feel free to submit a patch, we'll be happy to check it in.
