one small comment if I may:

while it is true that most serious developers will tweak the templates here and there 
we try as much as possible to add stuff people are requesting, and this without 
disrupting other people that are not interested in those features; the idea is to 
toggle features on and off using tagged values and cartridge-namespace properties, 
this way everybody can benefit from them (such a value is always implied by means of a 
default one, therefore it is always optional)

the hibernate and ejb cartridges are not really good examples of this, but the 
bpm4struts cartridge is: you have properties to toggle online-help generation, 
breadcrumbs, security, validation etc...

what I just want to say is, most of the time you will not want to touch the templates, 
only in case your business has a requirement that is rather unusual and is not common 
to other projects (hence, it should not be included in the 'generic' cartridges)
