I wouldn't rely on Xdoclet too much, it's a convenient tool but sometimes
it's just easier to skip it altogether

I would definitely go for option #2, no doubt

The implications are that for option #1 you rely on another bunch of
dependencies, that can perfectly be ommitted by simply creating more
complete templates. It will also be much faster to run your builds because
the extra xdoclet step won't be needed

Anyway, Chad is better at explaining this kinda stuff, so I'm sure he'll be
replying once he has the time :-)
