MyEntity myEntity = myEntityDao.create(firstName, lastName);

myEntity.setSomeRelationShip(someOtherObject);

myEntityDao.update(myEntity);





That one is better because the DAO insulates you from the fact that you're 
using hibernate behind the scenes (the other one is hibernate specific).  
Regarding "millions of DAOs", why should you even care?  MDA allows us to not 
care about that crap...all you do is implement your business operations.
