can't be done as UML versions prior to UML 2.0 do not included diagram 
information in the XMI, at least not standardized .. UML tools might include 
XMI extensions to work around this though (MagicDraw does)



I've never seen anything do this from the bare XMI datastructure (I've looked 
for it because I want to do that for a few images in the AndroMDA documentation 
website)



and I think it's too soon to find a tool that knows how to do it with UML 2.0



bottom line: you'll have to use your UML tool to export the images, if you 
would find an alternative don't forget to let me know :-)
