Sounds like you're using 3.0 (the docs on the site are for 3.1-M1 and above), so you're doing the correct thing by placing the namespace properties in the mda/project.xml. We'll be moving the 3.0 docs back to www.andromda.org soon (we'll have docs for both versions).
