I see the post mortem of the defeat of the Republican Party has begun!

Really? Is this your view of American Democracy? I am not sure whether this
is an indictment of your GOP (Republican Party) or an attempt to diminish
the significance of the Obama's historic rise to highest office in the
world.

It amuses me when people cite Obama's middle name "Hussein" to invoke
something sinister and label someone "Marxist-Socialist-Communist-Islamist"
enemy without first coming to term with the accuracy *or* the implication of
such a statement.

Even though his middle name suggested otherwise, Obama is NOT a Muslim. And
even if you allowed yourself to believe that he is; we cannot deem Muslims
of all creeds as terrorists or evil.

And let's take the term Marxist and Socialist and its association with the
Democratic Party. Hal Draper once said of Karl Marx that "there are few
thinkers in modern history, whose thought has been so badly misrepresented,
by Marxists and anti-Marxists alike."

Marxism is not a foreign concept to America. In Western democratic society
(America included), there is a theoretical presence of Marxist approaches in
the field of research in anthropology, arts, economics, literary criticism,
aesthetics, architecture, film and philosophy.

The American Democratic Party is the oldest political party in continuous
operation in the United States, older than the GOP (Republican Party). The
party has consistently positioned itself to the left of the Republican Party
in Economic issue, Healthcare, Education and Social issue. In term of
Socialism, Obama's Democratic Party is *more conservative* than the
conservative political parties in Europe, Australia or even the Tory Party
in Britain. These countries are your allies! Thus the conclusion that
"America is being *infiltrated* by her enemies and the result a radical
Muslim socialist-communist won" is a very skewed view of this current event.

The American Economy has always been better under a Democratic
Administration than under a Republican Administration. So even if I were to
agree with you that Bush is not totally responsible for this current
Financial Crisis, he is perhaps the most incompetent American president in
history. He managed to turn a prosperous country, left to him by Bill
Clinton, into this current mess.

And just as an aside, the Great Depression was quite a few decades before
Reagan or Thatcher took office in the 1980s!

Obama is the president-elect because he is an extraordinary politician who
has a great ability to unite everyone around him. Perhaps his oratory
speeches are at time rhetorical, but his messages are always of hope and
tolerance. Among his stellar list of supporters are Warren Buffet, Jay
Rockefeller, Tony Brown (British PM) and Dr Eric Schmidt (Google CEO). They
are hardly light weight or Marxists!

Obama has 287 editorial endorsements among the nation's newspapers and many
of those has never endorsed a Democratic ticket before (McCain has 159). He
has raised more money than any candidate in history and has mounted a very
organised and sophisticated campaign.

McCain is a good man, but in this election he had to reinvent himself by
trying to appease the Christian right in the Republican Party such as
Reverend Jerry Falwell; whom he referred to in his speech in 2000 as an '*agent
of intolerance*'. He adopted Karl Rove style of politics for this election,
even though he was a victim of it himself and America has had enough of it
after eight years.

John McCain did not have luck on his side in this election (Bush and the
Financial Crisis). But his selection of Sarah Palin to boost the
Conservative support in his party sealed his fate.

One must also remember that Obama did not just defeat John McCain, but took
on the most powerful political machine in America - the Clinton. And won!

Admittedly, Obama's presidency does nothing new for the situation in my
beloved Cambodia, but as a world citizen, I have every right to believe that
Obama will move the world in the right direction.

There is a great weight of expectation and optimism in the Obama presidency.
Even Fox News (who are the major critic of Obama), believes that he will
move America in the right direction and they alluded to the fact that even
Jesus who healed the blind and devoted his life to saving the poor was later
crucified!

Obama will not please everyone, but he has my support.
