Hi John. I don't know if this helps, but I wanted to mention - I've had issues with Narcissus in the past too. As best I could tell, it failed to complete the build process if certain packages were included. Unfortunately I didn't pinpoint which packages they were, but maybe try stripping down your build to something bare, and then add packages you need one-by-one and re-build?
When it doesn't hang, I've had images build in less than 15-20 minutes or so. Good luck, and if you do pinpoint the problem, please post it back.
