I was having a similar problem on one machine I was building on, and finally got around it by doing a clean and/or starting over with a new setup-scripts.

Sometimes if you break out of bitbake when it's in the middle of creating an image, it leaves it in a funny state, at least it seems that way to me.

The scripts are smart enough to handle a ctrl-c and wait for running processes to stop before exiting, but in my case I was stubborn and forced that b!T@# to end the fast way with some kill commands...lol
