Hello, I'd wish to share here my experiences/issues with running the latest image of Angstrom distribution on my H2210 which I hope will be helpful for angstrom developpers and well as users. First I put the image on a 512MB SD card and tried to boot; the booting procedure got frozen. Luckily I own a serial cable so I checked the console output - I figured out that the boot script is checking root filesystem and expect Y/N answer from the console. Here, in the mailing list I got a quick answer to disable it by simply changing /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh. Neverthless, not many people have the serial cable and get stuck at this point; I suggest the Angstrom devs change the script accordingly; After the change, Angstrom booted smoothly, nice OE splash, overall boot time seems to be quicker than that Familiar one. The raw install is without any PIM/apps (not like Familiar) just the basic config menus and applets. Here I come to the point which seems to be the weekest side of Angstrom in using on H2210 - the touchscreen jitter. Lets say that some 30% touchscreen hits are in-accurate in the sense that when typing on the virtual keyboard || trying to hit a smaller place on the screen, I miss. Especially typing is a real pain; the response on my virtual keyboard when I "miss" is just as follows: - in the login screen, instead of a lowercase letter it types an uppercase. - in a virtual console, instead of writing a character, it deletes two characters. No calibrating helped. In Familiar, the touchscreen response was excellent. I checked the tslib.conf settings and they were the same on Familiar and Angstrom install (only on Familiar the settings are stored in a different file) - maybe some issue with a newer version of tslib? The arrow pointer wasn't disabled by default, but according to my previous thread, this was easily done by adding a line in my home directory. Apparently a bug in a new version of Matchbox. Next I tried the usb networking for upgrading and installing new packages. This was rather strightforward, the only task was actually to manually add the g_ether module. The update/upgrade/list packages process discovered few surprises: 1 - update - great, all default links worked:) no surprise, angstrom is really up-to-date. 2 - other things with ipkg (including the upgrade process) - horrible response!! On Familiar, the response on my ipkg commands is few secs, while on Angstrom about 15. 3 - I was pretty amazed that although the Angstrom image I used was about a week old and there were a lot of new packages for upgrading! Really it seems that someone works hard here.. 4 - after rebooting the machine and trying ipkg once more, the horrible time response to my commands disappeared! Moreover, it was even quicker than that of Familiar!! :) Good work! My last stage was at bluetooth. The aim was to have IP over bluetooth. Unfortunately, I didn't succeed at this point. The problem is probably by some missing modules. I noticed, that there are few more modules in Familiar which are not available in Angstrom: the "bluetooth" and "hci_uart" kernel modules weren't installed by default; Ipkging them wasn't possible too; Ipkg seems to discover the packages "kernel-module-bluetooth" and "kernel-module-hci-uart", but will not install them; It just tells -- package not available, check your spelling the name... I checked, 10 times :), the command 'ipkg list "..." ' showed the info about the package, but copying/pasting and replacing 'list' by 'install' showed the non-existing package. Even downloading and trying to install manually didn't help, ipkg refused to install it. Maybe they are obsolete and these modules were replaced in the newer kernel version? Dunno.. In fact, I was able to establish a pand connection, but I couldn't ping each other side. Seconds, IP over bluetooth doesn't work for me as well on Familiar, here I am able to ping the other side, but it won't forward the package. I am going to ask about this on Familiar mailing list. That said, I will most likely continue using familiar on my h2210 but I can test new images of angstrom when requested. Kind regards, Zdenek
