I was pleasantly surprised to find tetex now on the package browser (by
the way, how do we find out in general about new packages, aside from
poking around?), but am having trouble with the installation.
It seems to think it is installed, but tex can't seem to find its config
files, and latex isn't actually there at all. Now, this may be my
fault, since some time back I installed the tetex-data files (at the
time, tetex itself was not on the feed), and when I did I installed them
to /usr/local, on a different partition from /, thinking that I would
try to work on that package. Well, I didn't do that. Anyway, first
time I installed tetex it complained loudly about the pre-existing
symlink from /usr/share/texmf to /usr/local/wherever. I _think_ I
removed all the old tetex-data packages and started over, and now it
installed without complaint once I installed from a local file the
tetex-texmf-fonts that would not install over the net.
But although tex will run, latex does not exist, and lyx can't find it.
Also, lyx conversion scripts don't work, the python scripts fail with
messages such as
ImportError: No module named re
But since (although labeled as 1.4.4....) the lyx version is now 1.5.0
rc1, all my files would have to be converted, since all I have yet on
other computers is 1.4.4.
Don't get me wrong, I am pleased as punch to see both lyx-1.5.0 and
tetex on the feed, but I am having some trouble setting them up.
And I would like to know how to find out what's new on the feed, since
this feed is the only source of software short of compiling my own, and
I had to jettison some of the .dev packages to make room for tetex in /
