it's good to do "ipkg upgrade too" - update merely downloads the
information in the repository

hmm, sounds like you need to edit the kismet.conf file so that it
knows what sort of network card you have.

after using kismet, you will probably need to eject the card (don't
have to physically do this, use the command "cardctl eject" and insert
with "cardctl insert"). Try pccardctl instead of cardctl if needed

you should always "shutdown now" or "init 0" to turn off, hitting the
reset button could corrupt files, you need to tell any real operating
system or a microsoft one to render itself quiescent and close all
files etc.

ah, this could be the standard problem in that a mass upgrade will
change to use the latest kernel *modules*. the kernel that's installed
will expect to find its old kernel modules (they're stored in
/lib/modules/) and they'll have gone. See other postings on this list
about how to upgrade the kernel without wiping everything.
