I had the same experience with narcissus on DSL and also have a collie. long live collie! :)
Im trying to do the openembedded bitbake thing but Im still new to angstrom and havent got a working image yet. However I recommend using kexecboot and booting from SD as this can make testing faster and also chances are you wont have enough room for angstrom in nand.
