Hi Migo,

Where are those bunchesof_columnsettings coming from? If you get those from 
an outside resource, you can move it to a service.
If you are typing them manually into the controller, I would suggest moving 
them to the template something like:

  <griddirective ..>
      <column seting1='..'setting2='...'></column>
      <column seting1='..'setting2='...'></column>
      <column seting1='..'setting2='...'></column>

      ...
  </griddirective>

Those column directives just add their data ti the griddirective’s 
controller. When all is set up, the griddirective can replace the template 
with the grid!
This is just one way to go, there are numerous other solutions to this!
