thanks but in your example the transcluded content is still rendered twice 
- but I get the gist. I guess I am surprised that transcludeFn cannot 
simply return the desired transcluded clone. after all - if I understand 
correctly, the purpose of that function is to give directive programmer an 
opportunity to alter transcluded content. so why not:
1) interpret return value as new transcluded content
2) if return value is undefined use 'clone' (from 
transcludeFn(function(clone){}) as transcluded content

...seems unnecessary to force client programmer to do extra push-ups of 
locating clone's parent node.
