If you saw the previous version of this post, the fiddle was botched.  
Here's one that shows my problem.

Basically, there are two spans that ng-show based on an input's error 
state.  The one in the html page responds as hoped, but the one inside the 
directive doesn't.  Am I scoping something incorrectly?
