Hi Eric, It is considered good form to use forms ;) One of the big reasons the are there is of historic reasons. (we didn't always had the luxury of $http/xmlHttpRequest) In angular forms are used to group inputs, and mainly to hook up extra functionality. and error-handling. resetting the form and stuff like that are also an consideration.
There is nothing you can't do without them, but a couple of things become easier if you do.
