I found a solution but I'm not sure about what change in the new Angular could cause this. Anyway, my hyperlinks in the anchors representing menu items were represented by href="#"; I tried setting them to href="#/" (note the final slash) and this worked. Now clicking them does not trigger browser navigation. My app is not using HTML5 mode, but nothing changed in it apart from the Angular JS version, so this must be somehow connected to the new release. Hope this can help somebody like me, at least :).
