There should be no difference between the data sent when using then over 
success. As Sander has stated, there is a difference in the data returned.

I recommend using Fiddler2 to view the data going over the wire for your 
calls. Using success/then and then using Beyond Compare (or a diff) to see 
the differences. Apart from cookies/Time-stamps there should be no 
difference.
