Hi Macha,

You need to enable transclusion. If you use a template, it will wipe out 
the dom node, and replace it. So the content gets lost.
If you want to keep the content, you should use tranclusion. 

Have a shot at it, if you don't succeed, come back here, and I will help 
you further along.
