I don't really understand your 1:1 relationship case, but you can update 
multiple views 
https://github.com/angular-ui/ui-router/wiki/Multiple-Named-Views without 
any problem. You just name one "sidebar", the next "main" or whatever and 
in the state definition you tell what belongs to the views (and 
controllers, if needed - you mentioned buttons). Nice if you have some 
views with the same sidebar. I would take a look just to see the Wiki 
topics.

If you just want to make your files smaller and more readable, maybe you 
can use ngInclude instead?
