My preference would lean to option 1 if you don't need to repeat the exact 
thing more than once. Otherwise I would go for the custom filter. It is 
indeed the the most DRY and sane solution. There is a catch. Filters might 
be called multiple times during each digest cycle (The same goes for 
function you put in the view, but it might differ a bit. You have to test 
in your situation to be sure!). So, if you are using cpu intensive 
functions, it might slow down your app.
