Filtering and sorting are always more or less costly operations. However, 
unless you are traversing really big arrays (~15.000+ rows), it's probably 
not worth spending time upon. I just went over the source of both of the 
filters you are asking about, and those are already pretty optimal. 
However, you can improve on them. Thing is, they operate on the $scope, and 
need to jump a few hoops to make the functions as generic as they are now. 
If you program against known data, you can do faster. However, don't expect 
large savings. There might be room to save a few percents performance out 
this way. If you are having performance issues, those are probably 
elsewhere.
