@Steven Luke - thanks for the suggestions - the blog post is very informative, but it doesn't really address my scenario - and I still can't get this to work - I created a simplified Plunker to experiment with this - I am able to "populate" a primary <router-outlet> and I am able to populate an auxiliary <router-outlet>, but I am unable to populate both (I get a route not found)...
