I've been wondering about this since I started reading about Angular 2 a few months back.
Someone wrote in StackOverflow <http://stackoverflow.com/a/38687651/816478> it was a way to get static evaluation. There is an ongoing debate in Github about how to do component inheritance <https://github.com/angular/angular/issues/7968> which doesn't seem to be solvable because of the decorator choice.
