Michael, chapeau!!!

I'm amazed the quantity and quality of work you can produce: vimeo + your site + blog + coding + playing + screencasting + bobbing your head at 2AM... i'm really impressed. If I had more confidence I'd dare say "Please introduce me to your pusher, it looks like he's providing very good stuff!!" ;-) (bear with me)

my name is Andrea, I live and work in Bergamo (Northern Italy) for a company focused on mobile sw. solutions for banks. Pretty boring eh? Right, that's why I steer a group of Contact Improvisation (lemolecole) which brings some fun in my life. Yes, we are talking contemporary dance, and although I'm in my 40s, i'll keep dancing till my legs keep me up.

a few links to grasp the concept

got it?

Ok, having a compute science degree, I think it's high time I start combining work (e.g. bits) & fun (e.g. dance music and code art), this is why i'm starting to explore processing, vvvv, animata and friends. I'd really love to see all this stuff applied to contact improvisation, create and tour performances which relate/translate body movement & body expression to digital expression. Pretty fuzzy eh? I know, I told you i'm exploring. By now I managed to have a (human) dancer friend playing live with a (digital) light blob in processing interacting with it on the scene. Surely I'll need some arduino like thing to make it better.

Then why this post? well, just to congratulate with you and to spread the word: is anyone aware of digital art related to contemporary dance and especially performances? Is anyone interested? Get in touch and share ideas!

best

andrea

I've ported Animata's rendering engine over to Java so that Animata scenes can be combined with other stuff in Processing.

Screencast here: http://vimeo.com/2839938

If you want to try it, go to http://processing.grimaceworks.com/animata where the library is available to download.
