Hi all. My thoughts on this: - nobody liked to duplicate code, we all agree on that; it is ture, however, that in any GIS duplication of functions is very widespread - batch jobs can easily be handled by both approaches (Rpy and pure Python plugins); the first case is obvious, for the second see e.g. some of the tools in the Raster (AKA GdalTools) plugin - the main differences between approaches are: * installation: installing and configuring R so that it can be used by QGIS has been a source of hassle on some operating systems, and is significanlty more complicated that a pure python approach * R is powerful, but many non-geek users find it difficult to handle; in contrast, a well designed Python plugin can be extremely simple to use. Therefore, I think there is room for both approaches, especially when one considers that we are talking about *relatively* simple tasks. On the other hand, for the sake of simplicity, I strongly support the integration of all HR related tools into one menu. Furthermore, I strongly support the idea of discussing even very initial pland through the mailing list (that's what it was made for). All the best. -- Paolo Cavallini: http://www.faunalia.it/pc _______________________________________________ AniMov mailing list [email protected] http://lists.faunalia.it/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/animov
