ApacheCon Europe, the official user conference of The Apache Software Foundation, has announced the keynote speakers for this year's event in Amsterdam, 7-11 April.
With topics encompassing the collaborative model of creativity, the economics of free software, and Apache 3.0, ApacheCon Europe 2008 continues its commitment to leading the wave of Open Source. Through sparking discussion and increasing interest within the Open Source Community, ApacheCon expands the opportunities for the deployment and application of Open Source software across Europe. It is estimated that over 400 Open Source users, enthusiasts, experts and beginners will attend this year's event in Amsterdam at which the keynote speakers will be: CLIFF SCHMIDT, Executive Director of Literacy Bridge - 9 April "Using Audio Technology and Open Content to Reduce Global Illiteracy, Poverty and Disease" Cliff will open the conference with a talk on how an Open Source project is helping some of the world's one billion illiterate adults and children to access the knowledge that is crucial to preventing diseases, creating economic opportunity and defending their human rights. RISHAB AIYER GHOSH, Open Source Initiative Board Member - 10 April Apache and Steam Engines: the Magic of Collaborative Innovation Rishab will discuss the collaborative model of creativity throughout history, from 18th century steam engines to the human genome project and discuss why and how collaborative creativity works. ROY FIELDING, Co-founder of The Apache Software Foundation, and Vice President, Apache HTTP Server - 11 April Apache 3.0 (a Tall Tale) At various points in Apache's history, the httpd project faced chasms that could not be crossed by the small steps of collaborative design, but required heroic individual leaps to push it forward. Roy believes the project currently faces another chasm, and his talk will be about what waits on the other side.
