I’d be very grateful if you would distribute this widely to interested parties
and relevant notice boards at your institution.

Thanks

Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate Dynamics at University of Exeter

The University wishes to recruit a postdoctoral scientist in the general area
of climate dynamics to support the work of Professor Geoffrey Vallis and Dr
Hugo Lambert. This post is available immediately for at least 30 months and is
part of the Met Office Newton Fund Climate Science Partnership.

The post will include numerical modelling and theoretical activities concerning
the large-scale circulation of the atmosphere, its interaction with convection
and radiation, and the impact on regional climate and global warming. The work
will use models of the atmospheric circulation of varying levels of complexity
with the aim of identifying key sources of modelling uncertainty and building
simple models of robust processes that improve understanding of regional
climate change. There will be opportunities to collaborate with the UK Met
Office.

The successful applicant will be knowledgeable in climate dynamics and/or
geophysical fluid dynamics, comfortable with numerical modelling, will be able
to develop research programmes and methodologies, and will be expected to
present research progress and outcomes at international conferences and write
lead-author peer-reviewed publications. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD
and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of
research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively and, as
appropriate, help supervise the work of others.

For further information please contact
Geoffrey Vallis ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>)
or Hugo Lambert ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>)
