Dear Colleagues, As a Virginia Libertarian, you're probably aware that there haven't been many LP candidates in our state over the last few years. I believe there are several reasons for this, ranging from ballot access hurdles, to a deficit of volunteer help and financial support.
Indeed, when I was considering running for Delegate last year, one of my biggest concerns was that I couldn't count on much support from the party. I ultimately decided to run anyway, but I am sure that many other prospective candidates have considered this factor and decided differently. If we're to have more candidates on the ballot, we must change this. At the June 26 meeting of the State Committee of the Libertarian Party of Virginia, we decided to take a new approach to addressing this problem. We created a new Political Development Committee (PDC), tasked with improving the party's electoral performance. I eagerly volunteered to lead this committee, and Chuck Moulton and Marc Montoni signed on right away to help me. It is my sincere hope that the PDC will be able to increase the number of Libertarian candidates in future elections, and provide them with some much-needed support. Of course, we have a lot of work to do if we're going to make that happen, and we need your help to do it. This year, we have 5 great candidates for Congress. · Bill Redpath (10th district) · David Dotson (11th district) · Stuart Bain (6th district) · James Quigley (3rd district) · Matt Mosley (8th district) You can download a printable bio with all of our 2010 candidaes here: http://lpva.com/Archives/Documents/Election/Candidate-Flyer-3.pdf Our candidates are working hard in the name of freedom, and they need our support. That's why I'm asking you to make your most generous donation to the PDC today! Click here: http://Contribute.LPVA.com Your donation will be a big help to our candidates this year, but it will do much more than that. By donating to the PDC, you'll help build a support structure we can show to prospective candidates in the future. We need to convince these future candidates that running for office as a Libertarian is a worthwhile use of their time. Let's show them that we have a network of dedicated Libertarians waiting to spring into action. The Political Development Committee will work to recruit candidates and walk them through the process. And, with your help, we'll begin to build a financial support network to get much needed funds to their campaigns. Please donate as much as you can today, so that we can give our candidates the help they need! http://Contribute.LPVA.com At the end of the day, the Libertarian Party exists to further the cause of freedom. As a political party, we do this by running candidates who spread the libertarian message through their campaigns. With your continued support, I believe that we can get more Libertarian candidates to carry our message to more Virginians - and that message has never been more important. Thank you in advance for your support. Sincerely, Matt Cholko Chairman, LPVA Political Development Committee P.S.- Our five Congressional candidates have been working hard, but they need your help to continue the fight.
