Dear Friend of Liberty,

Election Day is upon us. If you haven't already voted, please remember to go to
your polling place tomorrow and vote for the Libertarian on your ballot!

You can find out exactly what will be on YOUR election ballot by visiting the
State Board of Elections Voter Information page:

https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virginia.gov/PublicSite/Public/FT2/PublicLookup.aspx?Link=Registration&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

As you prepare to head to the polls tomorrow (hopefully to cast your vote for a
Libertarian for Congress), please take a minute to read up on the other issues
on the ballot. This year, there are three proposed amendments to the Virginia
Constitution. In addition, there are bond referenda in various cities in
Virginia. Our Northern Virginia affiliate made the following suggestion
regarding the three constitutional amendments, and I agree with them:

------------------

Please vote NO to all 3 proposed Constitutional amendments. You can read them
at:

http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/cms/Election_Information/Cidate_Lists_Ballot_Issues/Proposed_Amendments.html

One of the amendments will allow the state to increase the size of its rainy
day fund. We don't think the state should stockpile more of your money. In
fact, we don't think they should stockpile it at all. Therefore, we oppose
this amendment. The other two amendments deal with tax relief for specific
groups. While we like lower taxes, Libertarians do not support shifting the
tax burden from one group to another. Unfortunately, while these amendments
sound like a nice way to reward elderly and disabled people, as well as
disabled veterans, we oppose them on the grounds that they're not fair to
everyone else.

------------------

In addition to the amendments described above, voters in some jurisdictions
will have the opportunity to vote on hundreds of millions of dollars worth of
bond issuances. Libertarians should **always** vote against these debt bombs,
just on principle. Debt becomes the excuse for tax and fee hikes; and worse,
it saddles the consequences of slovenly spending onto kids who don't even vote
yet. Libertarians believe that taxation is legalized plunder, and for that
reason taxes should be eliminated wherever possible and governments should live
within their means. Therefore, we oppose the issuance of bonds, which will
only load more debt onto the backs of taxpayers.

Please vote NO on all bond referenda.

Now back to our Libertarian candidates. Here is the list of our candidates in
Virginia:

You can help by performing the following ...

****************************************************
FIVE MINUTE ACTION ITEM: Contact your friends and family and encourage them to
vote Libertarian!
****************************************************

Win or lose, every vote for a Libertarian sends a clear message for liberty.
According to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News, 82% of voters live where
they can choose Libertarians:

        http://www.lp.org/blogs/staff/82-of-voters-get-to-vote-libertarian

However, in many areas of the country, including seven of the eleven
congressional districts in Virginia -- and due mostly to the restrictive ballot
access laws the old parties have thrown in our way -- there are no Libertarians
on the ballot. Sure, there are always candidates of other parties who are on
the ballot -- but none have libertarian political views. That's why it is so
important for there to be a real Libertarian choice.

When contacting your friends, be sure to remind them how similar the policies
of Republicans and Democrats have been:

You could also tell them that, according to Project Vote Smart, Libertarians
show more political courage than Republicans or Democrats:

If they are Democrats, you might point them to this press release about
anti-war voters:

If they are Republicans, you might point them to this one about how Republicans
owe an apology to America:

I am especially thankful to all of our candidates, their families, volunteers,
and donors who have given their time, effort, and money this campaign season.
Please -- let's not let up until the polls close Tuesday evening! The national
office will be posting election results and analysis throughout the week. Due
to the large number of candidates, it is impossible to predict exactly what
will be published and when; so please check http://www.LP.org frequently.

For Virginia-specific results, look to the State Board of Elections site:

In case you're interested, across the nation, over 800 Libertarians are putting
their lives on hold in order to take the case for liberty to the voters. Take

Thanks again to all who have contributed this election season, and best wishes
on Election Day. Above all, remember to Vote Libertarian!
