Working title: Private Sector Steps In to Build Bridge -- While City Council
Dithers For 30 Years.

Dear Colleagues,

Here's an example of the private sector stepping in to initiate a needed
project.

After letting an old bridge fall into disrepair, the city of Chesapeake
received an offer from a bridge-building company to replace the rotting
structure with a state-of-the-art new one. The project is financed entirely by
the private sector, and the company plans to earn its investment back through
tolls.

Long-time LP member Joe Rudmin (L-Harrisonburg) brought this to my attention.
He also mentioned that his brother Mike Rudmin was the lead project engineer.
Congrats to Mike! I'm sure Joe is proud of his brother's work.

There is also a webpage for the bridge project itself:

On Saturday, October 27th, the builder is celebrating the imminent opening of
the bridge with its Bridge Bash weekend. Events include a 5k run & walk, and a
bike run. On Sunday, there will be a free driving preview of the bridge. See
the complete schedule:

Maybe we Libertarians should organize a group to participate in the walk,
perhaps carrying signs or wearing shirts promoting the private sector. "Private
Sector Crosses Jordan, Government Stuck in the mud", "sell all the roads to the
private sector - maybe the potholes will get fixed!" Or perhaps "Libertarians
support the private sector".

In any case, the Libertarian Party supports the transfer of the means of
transportation from government hands to the private sector.

Congratulations go to the builder, Figg Bridge Developers, for its successful
completion of the project.
