Dear LPVA Members and Friends: It came to my attention recently that long time LPVA member and former candidate Paul Gagnon passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014. He was 60.
I learned that Rick Sincere posted a notice earlier this month to LPVA Forum, but I did not see that notice. I received a note in the mail from his wife, Johna Good Gagnon, about his passing and an upcoming Memorial-Celebration of Life "Drop-in." Many of you may not remember Paul, as he and Johna had not been involved in the LP or LPVA for about the last 15 years. However, in the 1990's, they were among the LPVA's most active members. Paul was the LPVA candidate in 1999 for Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. He earned 18,084 votes (11.6%) in a four-way race with one major party candidate. If he had had someone other than me as his Campaign Manager, he might have won. Johna ran for Fairfax County Soil & Water Commission, earning 25,765 votes (6.3%) that year. In 1995, Paul earned 1,081 votes (6.1%) for Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Lee District. He and Johna were involved in many other ways during their period of service to the LPVA. Contact with Paul & Johna became less frequent after 1999 for me. I had dinner with them in November 2002. Sadly, that was my last contact with them until the note that arrived earlier this week. Paul was a good man and was dedicated to many people and organizations in his life. I'm glad the LPVA was one of them. The Memorial-Celebration of Life "Drop-in" will occur on Sunday, January 11, 2015, from 1PM to 7PM at the Franconia Governmental Center Community Room, at 6121 Franconia Road in or near Springfield, VA. Johna, of course, will be there. Dress will be casual and light refreshments will be provided. I hope all who remember Paul can stop by for a while.
