Dear mIRC User,

It is with great joy that I announce a new mIRC version. mIRC's new version
6.01 has been released sunday, February 10th, 2002. You get this message
because you have subscribed to the mIRC Release mailing list. The new mIRC
is available from http://www.mirc.com/ and from all fast mirrors all over
the world. We also give a few download addresses below.

With this new release we hope to address most, if not all, of the comments,
requests and remarks we recieved after the release of version 6.0. We'd like
to emphasize the new visual style dialog that allows you to set and change
frame styles (borders, lines and bevels), switchbar buttons, and a new
option to disable support for irc:// chat links.

* How to upgrade?

As you know mIRC is distributed in a self-extracting cabinet (mirc601.exe)
that helps you to install mIRC on your PC. Simply download the cabinet and
run the installer. Follow the instructions the installer program gives to
you. When upgrading all your old settings and scripts will stay as they
were, if you want that. Read the questions the installer program asks with
care and nothing can go wrong. You will be chatting with the new mIRC in no
time. If you get stuck or if you want to find out more about a certain
feature, just click on a Help button or browse the Help file and you should
find lots of hints to help you out. We also give some information on
changed, improved and fixed features and functions below.

* Where to download?

For the latest download addresses just go to the mIRC website. As a special
service to you we included some links below where mIRC is available already;

Utah            http://prochatting.com/mirc/mirc601.exe
Chile           http://mirc.cyberblues.cl/mirc601.exe
Arizona         http://www.ess-us.com/mirc/mirc601.exe
Faroe Islands   http://www.countline.dk/mirc/mirc601.exe
Illinois        ftp://ftp.snowolf.com/pub/mirc/mirc601.exe
France          http://webperso.easynet.fr/mirc/mirc601.exe

On the mIRC websites also the new mIRC FAQ version 50 (mfaq50hp.zip) is
available. The FAQ answers a lot of questions regarding mIRC, IRC, DCC and
the like. It also includes a tutorial on Aliases, Popups and on
'programming' the Tools/Remote section. mIRC is no longer available in a 16
bit issue. The most recent 16 bit mIRC version is 5.91. It's installer is
named mirc591s.exe. You can still download this older version from the mIRC
website.

* Shareware

As you know mIRC is shareware. It can be downloaded freely and evaluated for
30 days. Assuming you find that you enjoy using mIRC, it would be great if
you registered your copy. This licenses you to keep your copy of mIRC and
helps to support our continued work on mIRC. We offer a one time
registration, which works with all future versions of mIRC. You will never
need to register again.

* Improvements and new features:

I already mentioned the new visual style dialog and the option to disable
support for irc:// chat links. By default you have to confirm chat link
requests btw.

Several more or less annoying bugs have been fixed; a socket bug which that
very likely caused the crashes some of you have been reporting, a connection
retry bug which may have resulted in wrong nicknames, channel prefixes and
nick mode prefixes, etc. Other fixes are;
 an /ignore -u bug with multi-server support,
 the Agent support,
 the IRCX support for MS servers,
 the on NOSOUND event not triggering,
 the notify list that got lost if you used command line parameters,
 the password editbox,
 dcc send/get windows not showing "transfer incomplete",
 and lots of other things are improved or fine-tuned after user feedback.

May I remind how in version 6.0 multi-server support was added? With this
feature mIRC allows you to connect to multiple servers at the same time.
You'll notice the 'Multi-Server' button that provides a couple of new
options supporting this new feature. If you hadn't upgraded to version 6.0
yet, this is the moment to get 6.01!

You know by now that you have to dig through the help file and versions.txt
to get hold of the complete list of changes and their impact? Don't forget
that ;-) If you have questions, may we invite you to the Message Boards on
mIRC's website? These discussion forums offer great help with everything
related to mIRC.

I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with this new mIRC!

        Tjerk Vonck.

* What is this mailing list and how can you unsubscribe?

This mIRC Release mailing list is a low volume, low frequency announcement
list. Typically you will get one message right after each mIRC release, only
a few times a year. The last time was 8 months ago, in June. The list is not
a discussion list, there will be only one poster - me, the listmaster of
mIRC Co. Ltd. We will not use or abuse this list for other messages. It is
very easy to get removed from this list. Just use the unsubscribe form found
on the Mailing Lists page on the mIRC website
